President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes the importance of approving the constitutional amendments on decentralization in the Parliament. “The country should unite and not let anyone disrupt the process,” the President noted commenting on the opportunities of decentralization in the course of the introduction of new Kyiv RSA Head Maksym Melnychuk.
The Head of State is confident that the amendments will be approved. He reminded that the decentralization reform was developed on the Polish model with involvement of the best EU experts.
The President urged the attendees to address their political leaders, support the amendment and assume some responsibility for social and economic development of the region.
The President told that he would not allow federalization of Ukraine and added that the process of decentralization had been initiated by him.
“I do not agree with political leaders who say that we must dissociate ourselves from the part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and give away the sovereign territory of Ukraine to the enemy. Such policy is inadmissible for me. We should struggle for Donbas and Crimea. Constitutional amendments on decentralization will allow the return of the Ukrainian sovereignty to Donbas,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
