Ukraine Prepares to Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Patriotic Poet Taras Shevchenko
"Celebration of Taras Shevchenko's anniversary is an extremely important event for Ukrainian society," the President emphasized.
At the meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council, the President expressed content that the preparation to the given event has turned into the nationwide movement.
"I am very pleased that the preparation to Shevchenko's anniversary has turned into the nationwide movement going beyond the plans of government officials," Viktor Yanukovych said at the meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council.
According to him, it significantly increases the level of the government's responsibility with relation to the given process.
"First of all, I am speaking about the international plane of the preparation," Viktor Yanukovych said adding that such a great event would improve the image of Ukraine and strengthen the position of our country as high-developed civilized nation.

The anniversary of Taras Shevchenko will be widely celebrated in 2014. It was stated by Minister for Foreign Affairs Leonid Kozhara at the meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council.
"The glorious anniversary will be celebrated next year in many countries of the world. Our embassies and consular institutions are involved in celebration. We also actively involve the government, local citizens and Ukrainian expats of the countries where our agencies are located," Leonid Kozhara said
The Minister for Foreign Affairs noted that the given date would be particularly celebrated in Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Lithuania and Estonia – "countries where the great Kobzar spent his life".
According to him, the respective plan of actions had already been coordinated with Russia. Also, the approval of Ukrainian-Polish program is in progress. Respective protocols have been signed with Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
"The issue of building a monument to Taras Shevchenko in Astana is also being solved," Leonid Kozhara added.
The Minister also informed that at the 37th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris on November 5, the inclusion of the anniversary of Kobzar to the calendar of memorable dates of UNESCO would be considered.
"In January, with the assistance of the Ministry, the application on the inclusion of Shevchenko's anniversary to the calendar of memorable dates of UNESCO for 2014-2015 has been submitted to the organization," he said.
Moreover, according to him, on February 21, 2014, a series of measures in the UN Headquarters will be held on the occasion of Shevchenko's anniversary within the celebration of the International Day of Mother Language.
Leonid Kozhara noted that a great importance was attached to the publication of Taras Shevchenko's works and books about the life and creativity of the poet in foreign languages. The publication is planned in Brazil, Armenia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, China and Romania.
"We pay significant attention to the maintenance in proper condition of the facilities related to Taras Shevchenko," the Minister noted. Particularly, he stressed that the issue of providing support to Taras Shevchenko museum-apartment in Saint-Petersburg and the issue of restoration of Taras Shevchenko memorial complex in Washington were being successfully elaborated.
"Another important event is the return from Kyrgyzstan to Ukraine of the jubilee copy of Kobzar, published in 1939 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Shevchenko. The book has been sent to Donetsk Regional Library," Leonid Kozhara said.
