The President and his wife took part in the ceremony of honoring memory of innocent Ukrainians killed in 1932-1933. The ceremony was held in National Museum "Memorial to Holodomor Victims in Ukraine".
The President addressed the Ukrainian people: "We have to tell the whole world that we will not forget the crimes of Holodomor-genocide and its perpetrators; we will not betray the ideals of the Revolution of Dignity; we will do everything for national, political, economic restoration of Ukraine; for their entry in the European family of free nations".
The Head of State noted that the creation of modern Ukraine is impossible without fair and careful attitude to history. The President reminded the names of those who told the truth about Holodomor-genocide. He emphasized the importance of continuation of the process of de-communization and disclosure of KGB archives.
Speaking of present days, the President compared hybrid war of Russia against Ukraine with artificial famine of Stalin's regime aimed at elimination of Ukrainians. "They either take the bread from our land or burn our land with "Grad". The goal is all the same," the Head of State said.
Completing the speech, the President emphasized: "The key to our victory is unwavering unity of the Ukrainian nation. These words are not pathos. These words are objective necessity, an imperative, without which we cannot survive. Restoration of Ukraine has already begun. It is an irresistible process of purification of our lives, formation of renewed state, emergence of new people - patriots of Ukraine, heroes who stopped the attack of Empire with their feats," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, diplomats, clergy, public figures and witnesses of Holodomor.
After the speech, nationwide moment of silence was declared.
