Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People and Member of Ukraine’s Parliament, visited the Republic of Indonesia on 13-14 August.
During the visit Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev had an audience with Mr. Yusuf Kalla, the Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia, and informed him on the developments in and around Ukraine regarding the ongoing Russian aggression, in particular, about the situation in the East of Ukraine and in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea (ARC).
Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev expressed gratitude to the Vice-President for the support by the Republic of Indonesia of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular, Indonesia's voting “in favor” of the UN General Assembly Resolution “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine” dated 27 March 2014.
The Indonesian Side was also informed on the current human rights situation in the ARC, precisely, about the systematic violations of the rights of the Ukrainian Muslims - the Crimean Tatars by the occupying power. In this regard, Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev urged the Republic of Indonesia to support this year's UN General Assembly Resolution “Situation of Human Rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, Ukraine”.
During the meeting, both Parties emphasized on the significant prospects of Ukrainian-Indonesian cooperation in trade and economic as well as social and cultural spheres.
The Press-conference by Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev was held in the Embassy of Ukraine premises. The speech of Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev and numerous questions of the Indonesian journalists were related to the current state of affairs around the Crimean Tatar people in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as the actions taken by Ukraine and the international community aimed at the de-occupation of the peninsula.
