On March 17, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevheniy Yenin had a meeting with delegation of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the House of Representatives (lower Chamber of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia) headed by the deputy Head of the Committee Mr. Hafisz Tohir.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed Ukraine's readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation with Indonesia, strengthen cooperation within international organizations, and create an effective mechanism for cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Yevheniy Yenin drew the attention of the Indonesian delegation to the aspiration of Ukraine to expand and institutionalize the relations with ASEAN by acceding to the the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC), the acquisition by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the observer status in the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly, as well as launching of the ASEAN Center in Ukraine.
The interlocutors discussed the inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Indonesia, the development of political dialogue at high and the highest levels, cooperation in trade, finance and military-technical fields.
The parties also discussed bilateral events for 2021.
For reference: In 2020, the volume of bilateral turnover amounted to 1.01 billion USD: exports – 735.6 million USD (growth by 0.1% compared to 2019), imports - 278.0 million USD (decrease by 6% to 2019).
