On December 9, Dr. Vasyl Hamianin, Ambassador of Ukraine to Indonesia, took part in the 14th Bali Democracy Forum on the theme "Democracy for Humanity: Advancing Economic and Social Justice during the Pandemic".
The event was officially opened by H.E. Mrs. Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
Discussion panels covered three main topics: Democracy for Humanity: Addressing Poverty, Addressing Inequality, Advancing Inclusion.
Speaking at the last panel, Ambassador noted the importance of fighting the pandemic through joint efforts of the global democratic community, the efficiency of exchange by resources and experience between countries, as well as transparency of information and statistics.
"We should work together, take steps on the widest possible scale, support the exchange of knowledge and vaccines, sharing technologies and experience in managing health care system to overcome this global problem. The mentioned can be achieved in democratic societies and among democratic communities around the world, - Ambassador said.
Vasyl Hamianin focused on ensuring justice, inclusion, and equality in the occupied territories, including Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas.
He stressed the aggravation of inequality and exclusion of Ukrainian citizens in the regions temporarily out of control of the Ukrainian Government, in terms of access to social and medical care, vaccination, etc.
Ambassador underlined Russia's wide use of all aspects of the pandemic situation to oppress communities and individuals opposing the occupation regime, especially Crimean Tatars and residents of Crimea and Donbas who keep Ukrainian citizenship.
He called upon the global democratic community to support the Crimean Platform as the only efficient mechanism for counteracting occupation and protecting Ukrainian citizens from repression by the Russian authorities.
For reference: the Forum was attended by a range of foreign ambassadors to Indonesia and - in a virtual format – by foreign ministers, influential politicians, and public personalities from around the world.
