On November 18, 2021, Dr. Vasyl Hamianin, Ambassador of Ukraine to Indonesia held an online meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political-Security Community H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene.
During the conversation, they discussed ways to improve the existing mechanisms of cooperation between Ukraine and ASEAN in general and all member states in particular in mutually beneficial areas, such as trade, food, security, countering global challenges, including cyber-terrorism.
“Continuing active interaction between Ukraine and ASEAN in the fight against global challenges and threats is a guarantee of maintaining peace and stability, ensuring sustainable development and welfare of citizens,” said Ambassador of Ukraine.
H.E. R.M. Michael Tene expressed support for Ukraine's efforts to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and spoke about the positive results of such rapprochement.
V. Hamianin stressed the importance of continuing the interaction of the Embassy of Ukraine in Jakarta with the ASEAN Secretariat, and also noted the great work to update the relationship, which had been carried out by the Government of Ukraine and embassies of the ASEAN member countries in Kyiv. The opening of the first ASEAN Research Center in Ukraine is among the latest achievements.
