Working visit of the Ukrainian Delegation to Indonesia
03 March 2023 10:00

20 important and meaningful meetings, three countries, 21 publications in the leading media of Southeast Asia, 4 public lectures, communication with non-governmental public organizations, representatives of the academic community, and religious and human rights sectors. Interviews with television broadcasters in Malaysia and Indonesia and a photo exhibition in India - this and a little more about the results of the working visit of the Ukrainian delegation to India, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Work with the countries of the Global South was identified as a priority by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the end of last year.
Ukrainian - still occupied by Russia - Crimea became a real discovery for Asian colleagues. The fact that the peninsula is home to Ukraine's largest Muslim community, namely its indigenous people — the Crimean Tatars — helped to find a topic that would be relevant to both sides.

The Ukrainian delegation talked about the barbaric violations of human rights in the occupied Crimea, which are usually aimed specifically at the Crimean Tatars: criminal prosecutions, falsified cases, and criminal sentences of the occupation courts.

An important topic at the meetings was the creation of a special international tribunal, as well as bringing to justice all those involved in the commission of war crimes in Ukraine, as well as on its occupied territories, including the peninsula.

Visavy also agreed that the full-scale invasion and war started by Russia against Ukraine also affected the countries of Southeast Asia in terms of importing grain from Ukraine to Indonesia, and generally destabilized the peaceful life of the entire continent.

Tamila Tasheva, the President's Permanent Representative for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was pleasantly surprised by the universities where meetings with representatives of the academic community took place, especially in Yogyakarta.

Despite the fact that it is the smallest administrative unit in the region, about 100 universities are located there. People go there to get an education not only from all over Indonesia but also from other countries. Regarding education, we also have good news: Indonesian universities are already ready to provide full scholarships to students from Ukraine. It was also a pleasure to communicate with international students and the teaching staff of educational institutions. A keen interest in the topic of occupied Crimea, the Ukrainian state's efforts to liberate it, and its reintegration, as well as the current situation on the peninsula, is noticeable.
Indonesia and Malaysia supported the recently approved UN Resolution, in which the member states demanded that Russia withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine beyond its internationally recognized 1991 borders. In particular, Indonesia provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine after February 24, 2022. Also, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, visited Ukraine already after the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
