8-9 November the Fifth Democracy Forum took place in Bali, Indonesia. More than 12 hundred participants from over 80 countries took part in the event, including eleven state leaders and forty-two Ministers of Foreign Affairs, as well as UN representatives, US, and EU delegates.
55 Asian and Pacific nations are members of the forum and 74 countries and organizations are participating as observers (including Ukraine).
The motto of the event was “Promoting democratic principles in the global context.” The participants discussed the influence of democratic countries in the world and their collective efforts to support international peace and security, economic development, and countering the economic and financial crisis, protecting human rights.
The discussion reaffirmed the participants’ commitment to the propagation of democratic values and principles, the consolidation of effort in developing civil society, protection of human rights, and more decisiveness in solving international conflict.
