On November 3, 2021, Dr. Vasyl Hamianin, Ambassador of Ukraine to Indonesia held an online meeting with Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
Ambassador welcomed the decision of the 42nd session of the ASEAN General Assembly (23‑25.08.2021) to grant the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the Observer status and expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General for support on issues related to joining AIPA.
With reference to the official letter of Head of Staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Vasyl Hamianin noted that gaining this status is a significant achievement of Ukrainian diplomacy and an important event in the parliamentary life of our country, that provides new opportunities for more active cooperation with the ASEAN community.
"Observer status in AIPA creates a solid basis for deepening meaningful interparliamentary cooperation and further rapprochement of Ukraine with ASEAN" – Ambassador said.
During the meeting parties also discussed prospects for further practical steps to establish contacts between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and AIPA on a wide range of issues of global agenda, including topics of food security and environmental protection.
