Tuesday concludes the two-day visit to Ukraine of the delegation of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, led by MPR Head Sidarto Danusubroto. On Monday the Indonesian officials met with the Speaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) Volodymyr Rybak in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. The parties discussed issues relevant to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two nations. Sidarto Danusubroto underscored that the type of high-level visit effectuated this week is unprecedented for Ukrainian-Indonesian bilateral inter-institutional relations. He also remarked on the impact of geographically strategic countries like Ukraine and Indonesia on international relations, and called on Ukrainian officials to support Indonesia’s international policy for peace.
The delegation also met with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov. The parties discussed cooperation possibilities in trade and the economic sector. They also brought up the issue of organizing a joint business forum, as well as a meeting of the Inter-governmental Ukrainian-Indonesian Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation. The Ukrainian Head of Government underscored the country’s prominent position in the world in such areas as electro-mechanics, mining equipment, airspace, defense, agriculture, ship-building, and suggested forging closer ties in these sectors. The Indonesian Parliamentary Speaker expressed his high expectations for a future visit of the Ukrainian Head of State to Indonesia.
