The Crimea, an integral part of Ukraine, is being occupied by foreign troops.

On March 18, 2014, the developments were characterized by the following:

Extension of Russia’s military presence in Crimea, assaults and blockade of Ukrainian military bases on the peninsula

  • In Simferopol, Russian armed forces have attacked Ukraine’s topography center, leaving one Ukrainian serviceman dead and two injured
  • On cape Fiolent, Ukrainian military division was assaulted by Russian armed forces
  • In Donuzlav, Ukrainian military were issued an ultimatum to free naval base, blockaded by Russian armed forces
  • In Yalta, a chief of local division of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service was kidnapped by armed individuals
  • At least 11 mobile rocket systems “OSA” were moved by Russian military to the center of Crimean peninsula

Illegal separatist activities of self-proclaimed pro-Russian “puppet” government

  • Leaders of “puppet” government have signed a treaty with Russian leadership on Crimea’s accession to Russia
  • The accounts of Ukraine’s Treasury in Crimea have been blocked
  • Issuance of decree to confiscate all of the property of Ukrainian Armed Forces in Crimea
  • Russian patriarchy took control of property that belongs to Kyiv Patriarchy of Orthodox Church and Greek Catholic Church in Crimea

Intimidation and crimes against Crimean locals and pro-Ukrainian population

  • In Simferopol, Russian occupiers are continuing to force the families of Ukrainian servicemen from their houses
  • In Sevastopol, Ukrainian helicopter factory was plundered by so-called “self-defense” forces
  • In Yalta, two reporters  of Kyiv newspaper “Segodnia” were badly beaten by unknown individuals
  • An activist of Crimean Tatar community has been kidnapped by unknown individuals and is missing
